What is Radiesse®?
Radiesse is a FDA-approved dermal filler used to smooth wrinkles, add volume, and support facial features. Composed of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended in a gel carrier, Radiesse provides good support in areas such as nasolabial folds, chin, jawline and hands. Unlike other fillers which use hyaluronic acid, Radiesse is stiffer than the other gels and is more versatile. It addresses diverse aesthetic concerns from marionette lines to augmenting cheeks and the chin. This versatility helps Thrive Medical Spa further personalize your treatment. Stimulating collagen production, Radiesse provides immediate results with long-term benefits.
Radiesse dates back to the early 2000s when it was first developed by BioForm Medical as a novel tissue filler. Approved by the FDA, Radiesse quickly gained popularity among doctors and patients for its durability, versatility, and natural-looking results. Radiesse has undergone continual refinement, with new formulations and techniques to optimize patient outcomes and safety.

The Radiesse® Procedure
Before undergoing Radiesse treatment, patients are advised to discontinue using blood thinning medications like aspirin or Ibuprofen, and they should also avoid vitamins such as Vitamin E, Ginko Biloba, and Ginseng. These can increase the chance for bleeding and bruising. Additionally, the patient should avoid alcohol the day prior to minimize the potential of bruising at the injection site.
Once arriving at our facility, the practitioner will cleanse the treatment area and apply a topical anesthetic/numbing cream to minimize discomfort. Next, using a fine needle or cannula, the Radiesse filler is injected into the targeted areas. Our practitioner then massages the treatment area to ensure the filler is evenly distributed and to minimize the risk of lumps or irregularities. The entire procedure generally takes around 15-30 minutes. Regular follow-up appointments might be needed to monitor results or address any concerns.
Your Recovery and Results
After the treatment, recovery is minimal, allowing patients to return to their daily activities with little interruption. Some individuals may experience minor swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection sites, subsiding over the course of a few days. Applying ice packs and avoiding strenuous activities can help minimize swelling. We recommend patients minimize excessive heat exposure for a couple of days after treatment.
Regarding results, Radiesse treatment patients often notice immediate improvement, with the greatest results becoming more apparent over time. Radiesse gradually regenerates tissue and enhances volume, bringing a youthful appearance for up to 12 to 18 months, depending on individual factors such as metabolism and lifestyle habits. With proper maintenance and follow-up treatments, patients enjoy long-lasting benefits and continued improvement in their skin texture and elasticity.
