What are Acne Treatments?
Acne treatments encompass various methods aimed at reducing or eliminating acne lesions. The goal is to target the underlying causes of acne, and Thrive Medical Spa provides several options depending on degree of acne and patients desired outcome. In addition to medical-grade skincare, we often approach acne with one of the following treatment options: DiamondGlow® facials with targeting acne serums, moderate to advanced Skin Peels, and/or SkinPen® Microneedling.

The Acne Treatments Procedure
Once the patient has completed the crucial consultation process, they may be advised to discontinue certain medications or skincare products prior to the treatment to prevent skin irritation or sensitivity.
Treatment will vary depending on consultation with patient.
DiamondGlow: The diamond-tipped pen exfoliates the skin, buffing away dead cells and unclogging pores. The handpiece both infuses specialized serums and promotes healing.
Skin Peels: Depending on the type and strength of the peel, the solution is applied to the skin and left on for a specified time. The solution exfoliates the outer layers of the skin, promoting cell turnover and reducing acne. Once the predetermined amount of time has elapsed, the peel is neutralized or removed.
Collagen Induction Therapy (Microneedling) applies a topical numbing cream, then the FDA-approved SkinPen passes over the skin, creating micro-injuries to stimulate collagen production. This process helps to improve acne scars, texture irregularities, and overall skin tone. While one treatment can be effective, oftentimes we will suggest a series of three or four treatments, spaced approximately six weeks apart.
Your Recovery and Results
Temporary redness and sensitivity may occur after the treatment. Otherwise, recovery and results vary depending on the type of treatment received.
For DiamondGlow, some patients may experience minor flaking for a few days. Short-term results include smoother, more radiant skin with reduced acne lesions and improved hydration. Long-term results include better skin texture and clarity with minimized breakouts and overall skin health.
Peels may result in minor redness or peeling for a few days, while medium depth require several days to a week of downtime. Immediate results include clearer, brighter skin with reduced acne and better skin texture.
With Collagen Induction Therapy (Microneedling), some patients may experience redness or pinpoint bleeding at the treatment site. The short-term results include improved skin texture, gradual improvement of acne scarring, and other benefits from enhanced collagen production.
Medical Grade Skincare Products require minimal to no recovery time, as these products are applied as part of a daily routine. Initially, patients may experience mild irritation or dryness as the skin adjusts to the new products. Once the skin adjusts, patients report reduced inflammation, minimized acne breakouts, and greater skin hydration.
Safety is Our Priority
While acne treatments are extremely safe and effective, there are potential risks including allergic reactions to the serums or topicals. To minimize risk, it’s important to contact your provider if you notice something concerning. Additionally, it’s important to follow the post-treatment instructions provided by Thrive Medical Spa to help mitigate potential risks and optimize outcomes.
