What is a Chemical Peel?
Chemical peels are cosmetic procedures designed to improve appearance and texture of skin by applying a chemical solution to exfoliate the outer layers. Using compounds such as alphahydroxy acid (AHA), trichloroatic acid (TCA), or phenol acid, this process promotes the shedding of damaged or dead skin cells, revealing smoother, radiant skin underneath.
At Thrive Medical Spa, we offer three peels from SkinMedica:
Illuminize Peel: Known as SkinMedica’s gentlest peel, perfect for first-time patients seeking to address minor imperfections and achieve brighter, radiant skin without downtime. Consultation with our licensed staff determines the optimal treatment frequency.
Vitalize Peel: This alpha-hydroxy acid-based peel diminishes fine lines, acne scars, and pigmentary changes, improving complexion and texture with minimal downtime. Recommended in a series of three treatments at three-week intervals for maximum benefit, determined by our expert practitioners.
Rejuvenize Peel: Addressing moderate to severe imperfections from aging and sun damage, this peel smooths fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone. While noticeable improvement can be seen after one treatment, optimal results may require three to six sessions.

The Chemical Peel Procedure
Prior to treatment, patients may be advised to discontinue certain skincare products to reduce skin sensitivity, all covered in the professional consultation. Additionally, patients should avoid excessive sun exposure and use sunscreen to protect the skin.
During the chemical peel treatment, the skin is cleansed to remove any oil or debris. The chemical solution is then applied to the targeted areas of the skin using a brush or applicator. Depending on the type and strength of the peel, patients may experience a mild tingling or burning sensation, which subsides within a few minutes. The solution is left on the skin for a specified time determined by the practitioner, allowing it to penetrate the outer layers and exfoliate dead skin cells. After the appropriate duration, the solution is neutralized or removed with water.
Your Recovery and Results
Initially following treatment, most patients report a flush similar to a sunburn. Patients with sensitive skin may experience temporary swelling. Two or three days after treatment, the treated skin will peel or flake (depending on the peel) to reveal healthy skin with ultimate results within seven to ten days of treatment.
Short term, patients can anticipate smoother, even-toned skin with diminished imperfections. Also, the skin may appear brighter and more radiant. As the skin continues to heal and regenerate, long-term results become more apparent. Over time and repeated treatments, chemical peels stimulate collagen production, helping to firm and tighten the skin, reducing signs of aging and promoting a youthful complexion.
Safety is Our Priority
Along with the common and temporary redness and swelling, rare risks and complications include allergic reactions to the peel solution or infections, scarring, or changes in skin pigmentation.
Thrive Medical Spa is dedicated to placing your safety and well-being at the forefront of everything we do. With a firm commitment to providing a secure and stress-free experience, our goal is to create an environment where you can truly flourish.
