What is Eyelid Surgery – Lower Blepharoplasty?
A lower blepharoplasty, which targets the under-eye area to address specific concerns, is a time-tested cosmetic procedure with a history dating back 2,000 years.
Lower blepharoplasty deals with puffiness or bags under the eye. Removing or minimizing this area gives a more youthful appearance.
Blepharoplasty is safe but not suitable for everyone. Individuals with dry eye syndrome should approach cautiously. An initial consultation with Dr. Zubowicz is crucial to address risks and determine if you are a viable candidate for this surgery.

The Eyelid Surgery – Lower Blepharoplasty Procedure
Before the procedure, patients are advised not to wear makeup. Sedation is typically administered, so arranging for a ride home is essential.
Our skilled surgeon, Dr. Zubowicz, focuses on removing excess skin while preserving vital fat. For lower eyelids, the concern is puffiness caused by displaced fat, which may be removed or repositioned for aesthetic enhancement. Skin removal is minimal, ensuring a conservative approach.
The surgery employs standard surgical instruments, avoiding the use of lasers. Studies have shown that laser removal can result in more visible scars than traditional scalpel techniques.
Uncomplicated lower eyelid surgery takes about 45 minutes, and it is similar to upper eyelid surgery. Dr. Zubowicz’s expertise ensures a swift and precise procedure.
Your Recovery and Results
After the procedure, you’ll be up and about immediately. You can resume driving when it’s safe for you to do so. However, physical activity should be limited to walking for about a week until your post-op visit. After that, you can gradually resume athletic activities while being cautious to protect the healing eyelid incisions.
We provide ice packs for your comfort. For lower lid surgery, patients are instructed in digital physical therapy to aid the eyelids in maintaining their correct position.
Most patients find that blepharoplasty does not generate significant pain. Icing usually provides sufficient relief, and over-the-counter pain medications are permitted. If you are particularly sensitive to pain, a prescription for a narcotic may be provided for your comfort.
Eyelid surgery is usually a once-in-a-lifetime event. The results are enduring, providing a lasting, refreshed appearance.
