The Restylane® Procedure
Before the treatment, patients should avoid blood-thinning medications like aspirin and ibuprofen, as well as supplements like fish oil and vitamin E, which can increase the potential for bruising. Alcohol consumption should be minimized in the days leading up to the treatment to reduce inflammation and improve healing. On the day of the treatment, patients should arrive with clean, make-up free skin to allow for proper assessment and preparation of the area. The practitioner will clean the skin and may apply a topical numbing cream to minimize discomfort.
Once the skin is prepped, Restylane injections are administered using fine needles to target the areas of concern. The specific Restylane product and areas are predetermined in the consultation. The practitioner carefully injects the filler into the predetermined areas, adjusting quantity and placement as needed for desired results. Each patient is unique so the treatment will be customized to ensure best results.
Your Recovery and Results
The recovery after Restylane is minimal, with most patients able to resume their normal activities immediately. Common side effects may include mild swelling, redness, bruising, or tenderness at the injection sites, all which resolve in a few days. Patients can apply ice packs to reduce swelling and discomfort, and over the counter pain relievers may be used if desired.
In the short term, patients can expect immediate improvements in treated areas with enhanced volume and smoother skin texture. Long-term results from Restylane vary depending on factors such as the product used, treated area, and individual skin treatments. On average, Restylane results can last anywhere from 6 to 18 months, and some patients experience longer benefits with touch-up treatments.
