What is Sculptra?
Sculptra from Galderma is an FDA-approved injectable dermal filler primarily composed of poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible and biodegradable substance. Unlike traditional fillers, Sculptra stimulates the body’s natural collagen production, gradually restoring facial volume and improving skin texture over time. Sculptra is commonly used to address facial wrinkles and hollow areas, providing subtle, natural-looking, and long-lasting results
Sculptra was first introduced in Europe in the early 2000s under the name New-Fill. It gained FDA approval in the US in 2004. Originally developed to treat lipoatrophy, a condition characterized by fat loss in the face, Sculptra began to be used as a cosmetic filler. Today, it is a trusted option for patients seeking facial volume and contour.

The Sculptra Procedure
Leading up to the treatment, patients should avoid blood-thinning medications like aspirin and ibuprofen, as well as vitamin E and fish oil, all to reduce the risk of bruising. Patients should refrain from smoking and alcohol consumption to promote healing.
It’s best for the patient to arrive with clean, makeup-free skin to allow for proper assessment and preparation of the treatment area. Our staff cleanses the skin and might apply a topical numbing cream for greater comfort during the procedure. Once the skin is ready, the Sculptra injections are administered using fine needles to target specific areas, adjusting quantity and placement as needed for best results.
Your Recovery and Results
After a Sculptra treatment, patients can typically resume daily activities right away. Post treatment, your Thrive injector will ask you to massage the area for five days. Using moderate pressure, patients will massage the treated areas in a circular motion for five minutes a day, five times a day, for five consecutive days. The massage is an important step in integrating the Sculptra product into your tissue for best long-term outcome and results!
Immediately following the procedure, patients notice improvements in facial volume, although it’s important to note Sculptra works gradually over time. As collagen production increases, patients observe progressive enhancement of skin texture and firmness. Sculptra treatments can last up to two years or more, depending on individual factors like age, skin condition, and lifestyle. With sessions and maintenance, patients can enjoy sustained improvements in facial contour and overall appearance. We may recommend regular touch-up treatments to maintain results and address any ongoing issues.
